Summer Exhibition 2008

18 March 2008

Dear Alumni,

We are pleased to announce the second annual SUMMER EXHIBITION of the New York Academy of Art, which will open Tuesday, 17 June 2008 and be on view through Sunday, 7 September 2008. Last year's exhibition was a real success, not only in the exposure it provided to Academy artists, but also in the significant number of works sold. SUMMER EXHIBITION 2007 provided a great learning experience, and we are confident that this year's exhibition will break all records for quality, originality, volume of submissions and the exposure it draws.

We invite Academy alumni and current MFA students to submit up to three works for consideration by the Selection Committee. Submissions may include paintings, drawings, sculpture and unique prints. We are thrilled to share with you that Will Cotton, Matthew Flowers, Nicola Hicks and David Salle will comprise this year’s Selection Committee. Approximately 125 works of art will be selected by the committee, and all the work will be available for purchase; participating artists receive 75% of the purchase price! Although each artist will determine the price of his or her work, it must be appropriately priced or it may not be considered for exhibition.

Following in the tradition established in 2007, Flowers Gallery on Madison Avenue will offer a three-person exhibition to the most notable artists of summer exhibition 2008. We are sincerely grateful to Matthew Flowers for this unique opportunity. For more information about the Flowers Gallery, refer to www.flowerseast.com.

Please review the guidelines thoroughly for the submissions process. Although works must initially be submitted by email (the deadline for jpeg submissions is 29 April 2008), this year the Selection Committee will be available to review submitted work in person on May 6 from 11 am until 1 pm at the Academy. All questions should please be directed to Topher Ziobro at 212.966.0300 x110 or at summerexhibition@nyaa.edu. Check back here for periodic updates regarding summer exhibition 2008.

We encourage and look forward to your participation with great enthusiasm.

Sincerely,

Wayne A. Linker
President
