SUMMER EXHIBITION 2009

** SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 12TH, 6PM

SUMMER EXHIBITION 2009, the 3rd annual exhibition of paintings drawings sculptures and prints by New York Academy of Art MFA students and alumni, will be open to the public from June 2 – August 2, 2009

The deadline for submissions is April 6, 2009.

17 March 2009

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the third annual SUMMER EXHIBITION of the New York Academy of Art, which will open to the public Tuesday, 2 June 2008 and remain on view through Sunday, 2 August 2009.

We invite all Academy alumni and current MFA students to participate by submitting up to three works for consideration by the Selection Committee; submissions may include paintings, drawings, sculpture and limited edition prints. With the extraordinary success of the past year, including the 2009 TriBeCa Ball, we are certain that this year's exhibition will break all records for the opportunities it offers to our artists.

The Academy's list of supporters, patrons and applicants to the MFA program has grown dramatically this year, our networks are flourishing, and in the last two years Academy artists have received substantial proceeds from works sold in the SUMMER EXHIBITIONS! Participating artists have received individual commissions, residencies in France and St. Barth, and one lucky artist was awarded a year-long residency in New York City, funded by members of our Board of Trustees.

We are thrilled to share with you that the jury for the SUMMER EXHIBITION 2009 will be comprised of Eric Fischl, familiar to the Academy community as a Senior Critic and to the world as a highly respected artist, Anne Strauss, Associate Curator in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Department of Nineteenth-Century, Modern and Contemporary Art who is staging a major exhibition of the work of Francis Bacon (May 20 - August 16, 2009), and Matthew Flowers, a highly respected international dealer with galleries in London and New York. Together they will select the work to be included in the exhibition and determine the artist of special commendation who will be awarded a residency in St. Barth.

The jury is seeking to present a collection of approximately 120 noteworthy works of art, and all works will be available for purchase. Each artist will determine the price of his or her work and will receive 75% of the purchase price, but please note that it must be appropriately priced or it may not be considered for exhibition.

The deadline for submissions is 6 April 2009 and submissions will be accepted online only. For complete submission details, the application and periodic updates regarding SUMMER EXHIBITION 2009 please visit our website (www.nyaa.edu); the application can be found directly at http://nyaa.edu/Exhibitions/submit/. Artists may also bring the works they have submitted for SUMMER EXHIBITION 2009 on the morning of Sunday, April 19th between 9 - 11 am to be viewed later in the day by the jury in person; details will follow.

All questions should please be directed to summerexhibition@nyaa.edu / 212.966.0300 x965. We encourage and look forward to your participation with great enthusiasm.

Sincerely,
