Week 1:
Intro to class/syllabus. How do we create form? Principles of Light and shade, values, gradation. In class work: value scale using different pencils. Beginning of geometric still life (cube/sphere, cylinder).
HW: Drawing .Geometric Primatives
Week 2:
Geometric Still life. Demo/discussion on proportions, how to measure, repetition of principles of light and shade, values, gradation. Students will draw the geometric still life with graphite.
HW: Draw an egg.
Week 3:
Copying a master drawing in graphite. Intro of artist and his/her place in art history. Intro of grid. Students will copy a master drawing. Students that did not finish the charcoal still life have an opportunity to do so as well.
HW: Finish the copy at home.
Week 4:
Intro to color. Color wheel, primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Shade, tint. Intro to acrylic paints. Students will paint a color wheel using acrylics.
HW: Draw your hands in 5 different positions.
Weeks 5 - 8:
Grisaille Painting: Composing Hands. Students will draw their hands and design them into a composition. Lecture on design and how to do the project (blending if they want). Students’ hand will be drawn on black underground with strong light shining onto it, creating 4 values at least (form light, from shadow, cast shadow and background). Students will create a values scale using at least 4 values. Students will paint a grisaille of the hands.
Week 9:
Intro to model. Demo on how to do short sketches, how to look etc. Will progress into 5 min poses, 10-minute poses and 20 minute poses. Choice of graphite or charcoal.
HW: Make a viewfinder.
Week 10:
Drawing the model using a viewfinder. Model will take a pose, and students will find an interesting composition using a viewfinder and draw it in charcoal and/or pencil.
Week 12:
Draw the model. Students will create a finished drawing of the model, including form light, form shadow and cast shadow. |
