COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Printmaking
Printmaking courses assess a fee that covers the cost of materials. The fee for Printmaking
I is $40 and Intermediate Printmaking is $30.
Printmaking I
Intaglio: Etching and Engraving
D203
This course expands the drawing process to explore the narrative realms and sensory
rich properties of intaglio printmaking. It is augmented by regular technique
demonstrations for those unfamiliar with the methods. Unlike most printmaking
courses, this one focuses on the particular techniques and languages that are best
suited for creating the volumes and light effects in figurative representation. The
processes include, but are not limited to, line etching, engraving, drypoint and mezzotint.
Students work from a live model on certain projects but are expected to
complete a print or suite of prints based on a self-directed concept or theme.
3 credits.
Printmaking Seminar
D303
This seminar concentrates on 'surface application' (non-intaglio) printmaking
methods, including woodcut, lithography and monotype. Bi-weekly demonstrations
will be given in these methods. Each student is expected to produce a suite
of prints in a chosen medium. Critiques are scheduled every other week, alternating
with technical demonstrations.
3 credits.
