Human presence is felt
but generally not seen in the new work of Jason
Bereswill. Depicting empty campsites, these pictures
are about the figure being lost in the idea of nature. The unseen
inhabitants of this place are transients, temporary interlopers
in the natural world.
Jonathan
Davies' work turns our world upside down and backwards,
yet his images are unsettling because they remain recognizable.
He presents an alternative view which implicates us in the unnatural,
and by doing so, momentarily exposes the tension between our
public and private selves.
What do
you do when no one else is looking? This is the question that
Michael Kagan
has addressed in his recent group of paintings. Interested in
solitary human activity unburdened by social norms, Kagan explores
the behavior of individuals in their most natural state.
