The StratREAL Foundation Scholarship Program

The New York Academy of Art is pleased to offer StratREAL Scholarships to its first and second year graduate students.   First year students, beginning in the Fall of 2008, will be eligible to compete for an annual award of $25,000.   Second year students will qualify for annual scholarship of $15,000 beginning in the Fall of 2008 and continuing for the 2009 academic year.   Recipients of second year StratREAL Scholarships will also be considered by the Academy for additional support through work-study assignments and supplemental institutional scholarships up to a value of $10,000.   The selection of the StratREAL Scholarship holders will be based on excellence and financial need.

Recipients of first year StratREAL Scholarships will be eligible to apply for a second year of support in competition with other applicants from his or her class.   The successful applicants will be selected on the basis of excellence and financial need.

Winners of the StratREAL Scholarships will be required to participate in a new mentor project established by the Academy in cooperation with a New York City-based high school. In this manner scholarship winners will communicate the inspiration and knowledge that they themselves will have received during their time at the New York Academy of Art.   The mentor project will pair scholarship recipients with high school students for a program of structured and unstructured bi-weekly meetings relating to academic and artistic issues.   Faculty and administrative guidance and training will be provided to StratREAL Scholarship holders before they receive their mentor assignments, and mentors will meet periodically with trained Academy staff to discuss progress, issues and concerns.

The StratREAL Foundation, sponsor of the scholarship program, was established in 2003, and it works to forge relationships with nonprofit organizations that make a tangible difference in the lives of young people.   In addition to the New York Academy of Art, the Foundation supports Learning Through the Arts, The Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation, The Prince's Drawing School, Foundation for UNESCO - Education for Children in Need, and VSO, an international development charity.   For more information on The StratREAL Foundation, please refer to www.stratrealfoundation.org.
